Unlike a spoon, the head is flat, so there's no scooping, no balancing, and no wrong way to hold it! Thickness of head with textured surface promotes lip closure and facilitates lateral tongue movement, elevation, and retraction. Smaller size makes dipping and maneuvering to mouth easier. Tapered neck and shorter handle signals how far to insert into mouth, reducing gagging. Stage One has dimples to grab just enough food and textured surface to soothe sore gums.
